Description of the work
The statue of Saint John the Evangelist, created by the religious sculptor Juan Alberto Pérez Rojas, is an outstanding example of contemporary religious sculpture inspired by the great masters of the Andalusian tradition. Carved from mahogany, gilded with tempera, and polychromed with oil paints, this work was commissioned in 2013 for the Hermandad de la Vera Cruz in the Seville town of El Coronil, as part of a program to decorate the procession float bearing the brotherhood’s patron saint, Christ.
Composition of the figure
