Description of the work

The beginning of the author's sculptural career in this iconography is shown in this beautiful image of great formal correctness.

He departs from the classic models of Sevillian statuary to reflect a contained, serene pain. The soft modelling reveals his knowledge of the anatomy of the face, enveloping the volumes to obtain a harmonious final result.

The joined hands take us back to classical statuary where expressiveness was sought in resources such as this. The Virgin's polychromy is in light tones, something usual in this type of figure in the artist's career.
